Description

The Bible books known as “wisdom literature” are a rich trove of ideas and approaches to living a meaningful life. The class will:

  • Delve into the ways the wisdom books reveal a world governed by a divine purpose that can be both perfectly clear and yet shrouded in mystery.
  • Plumb the joy and fulfillment of seeking to live “wisely” and finding “dynamic balance” in the ever-changing circumstances of life.
  • Discover the centuries of collective reflection on human experience and deep principles of personal, social, and ecological wholeness.
  • Explore the limits of wisdom, including the extremes of human experience that challenge our hopes and expectations that the world finally makes sense.
  • Ask about the social-political and historical “locations” of these texts and explore how these ancient words of wisdom can inform our lives today.
  • Discuss ways to apply this material in pastoral ministry, including preaching, Christian practices, and pastoral care.

And do all this in fellowship with a welcoming group of Licensed and Commissioned ministers with daily chapel, meals, and conversation that is renewing and transformative.

Limited on-campus housing is available at an additional cost of $34 per night ($40 with linens), payable on arrival. Please contact Sarah Evans at sevans@cts.edu to reserve a room.
